My name is Regitze Andersen and I started my sailing adventure in 2018 onboard a wooden schooner called Linden at Svalbard. Read more about the Plastic Expedition at Svalbard. Here I saw how plastic pollution affected our oceans and how it had a devastating effect on the marine environment and marine animals in the Arctic. I've always been drawn to the ocean and fascinated by the underwater mystery, and the cause is very close to my heart, so it was only natural for me to start an organisation that protects the ocean and that is how Nordic Ocean Watch Denmark came to live. I am an adventurer at heart and combining my love for the ocean with the expeditions onboard Bark Europa is a unique and valuable opportunity and experiences of a lifetime.

Bark Europa - Antarctica 2023
Bark Europa has been crossing oceans and seas on a regular basis and has the reputation of being a ship that really sails. This has brought her to all continents, sailing the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Ocean, thus earning her nickname ‘Ocean Wanderer’. At the end of summer, when the sun starts retreating to the southern hemisphere, Bark Europa will set sails across the Atlantic ocean to Uruguay and eventually reach the Antarctic Peninsula. Read more about Bark Europa.
Stories about life aboard will appear regularly on Bark Europa’s website under Logbook at www.barkeuropa.com. Furthermore, you can check the locations of the ship under Follow the ship.

Bark Europa - Antarctica 2023
Nordic Ocean Watch Denmark has sailed onboard Bark Europa before. Summer 2021 we crossed the Atlantic Ocean together conducting research on microplastic pollution from the sea surface. Read more about the Microplastic Research across the Atlantic Ocean. In 2022 we attended the Tall Ships Races together. We sailed as a Cruise-in-Company from Harlingen, The Netherlands across the Wadden Sea and the North Sea to Antwerp, Belgium. In port we shared our knowledge about our research and talked about plastic pollution and its impact on the environment and marine life to everyone visiting our research tent on the quayside. Read more about the Tall Ships Races.
January 2023 we sailed to the southernmost continent on earth, Antarctica. We sailed from Ushuaia, Argentina through The Beagle Channel and crossed the Drakes Passage, visiting the South Shetland Islands along the way before reaching the Antarctic Peninsula. Onboard I was part of the science field staff team and conducted citizen science research projects.
