CITIZEN SCIENCE

Marine pollution research and education

At Nordic Ocean Watch Denmark, we believe that everyone can contribute to ocean research. Through citizen science, we collect valuable data that helps us understand and fight marine pollution. By gathering and sharing data together, we turn everyday actions into collective knowledge that protects the ocean and inspires change.

Every cleanup is more than picking up trash – it’s also an opportunity to gather important information. By recording what types of trash we find and where we find it, our volunteers contribute to our trash data database, helping to build a clearer picture of pollution patterns along Danish coastlines. This data is shared and used to support awareness, research, and action.

TRASH DATA

Every cleanup contributes to our citizen science trash database, providing valuable data on ocean pollution. Learn more about our trash data here.

The data collected during our coastal cleanups provides valuable insight into local pollution patterns. To complement this, we also gather information on the open ocean through our collaborations with tall ships and environmental organisations. Onboard we collect samples and study marine pollution in the open ocean. These voyages not only contribute citizen science data but also create space for education and activation through lectures, cleanups, workshops, and the inclusion and the inclusion of participants from all backgrounds, making research more accessible and engaging for everyone.
